Corría el año 1970, ya los primeros signos de una primavera floreciente nos hacia sentirnos mas libres, mas escurridizos en esas siestas mágicas e interminables. Me acuerdo de esas charlas de chicos en los descansos de nuestras corridas y yo allí mirándola, siempre parada en un mismo lugar sobre la calle Schiaffino, y yo muchas veces dándole vueltas para verla mejor, como intentando retenerla en mi mente por mucho mas tiempo.
Si, era la Studebaker de Don Piazza, o del viejo Piazza como le decían por acá. Y yo en mis 7 u 8 años y no se por que razón quede como hinoptizado por tal máquina, a pesar de pertenecer a una familia tradicional del óvalo y como suele pasar anti-chevrolet a muerte como si de partidos políticos se tratara.
Don Piazza se murió y desapareció ante mi esa hermosa camioneta a la cual nunca vi jamás, y nunca mas vi otra igual, así original como estaba.
Con el tiempo uno va creciendo y comienzan a importarles otras cosas. La escuela, los otros autos, la familia, etc. Mi indiferencia terminó el día que leyendo una revista Corsa, apareció una nota que trataba sobre los dorados años 60, y destacaba que muchos acaudalados de la capital la adquirían por ser el vehiculo mas rápido de producción nacional que existía. Esas historias y las leyendas que hablaban de aquellos míticos 170 Km/h gracias a su poco peso, su perfil bajo y principalmente a su potente motor V-8 me cautivaron completamente.
¿Donde estará? pensé.
Paso el tiempo y crecí, termine la primaria, el secundario y me tocó el servicio militar justo en el año 1982. Allí me encontraba, en Paraná, capital de Entre Ríos, cuando en un día de franco local o en un mandado para algún suboficial me encontré personalmente con una Studebaker Champ roja estacionada sobre una vereda. Su color no era original, lamentablemente su dueño la armó con un estilo deportivo, pero igual al verla, al observar su parrilla cromada, automáticamente apareció delante de mí la calle Schiaffino, mi infancia en Gualeguay y “Don Piazza” y su Studebaker verde.
¿Donde estará? pensé.
Transité aquel complicado año 82 y a fines de Mayo del 83 salí de baja y volví a mis pagos. Volví y estudie, trabaje, me case, tengo un hijo hermoso, me separe, y apareció Internet. Recién volví a ver por fotos otra Champ, y renació mi amor a esta historia y es por eso que ahora deseo compartirlas con Uds. preguntándome;
